The Akamas Peninsula in the north-west of Pafos is one of the most beautiful parts of the island.
It is a protected National Park and the prevailing peace and tranquillity, interwoven with
the history, tradition and legend that the area abounds, creates
a climate of ancient mysticism.
On the way to Akamas you will have the chance to see Aphrodite’s Rock, which is the
legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty and love.
Our trip continues to Latchi a picturesque fishing village which stretches
3km on the edge of the Akamas National Park. Once in Latchi you will
have the chance to take a short boat trip in the area and enjoy a
relaxing lunch on board while taking in the natural beauty
of the area and enjoying the crystal clear turquoise
water of the Fontana Amarosa.
Your adventure will then continue to Adonis and Aphrodite’s baths. Legend has it that
goddess Aphrodite met her lover Adonis while he was hunting in the Akamas forest.
The baths was the place where the two lovers tended their horses and relaxed
during their hunting trips. The legend also says that Artemis, the Greek
goddess of hunting, was jealous of their love and made many attempts
to kill Adonis. Artemis eventually succeeded by hiring a man disguised
as a wild boar to kill Adonis, who managed to return to the baths,
but died in Aphrodite’s arms.
When boat trips are not available, instead of taking a boat trip you get the chance
to visit the turtle sanctuary at Lara Bay and walk along the Avagas Gorge
with its sheer limestone walls rising above you. |
